goodbye sarge!

After some long hesitation finally did a dist upgrade from sarge to etch on my laptop, some small screwups in the process, wrt xf86 -> xorg migration & some minor hardware issues. now for a kernel recompile!.
I am not going for debconf, due to last minute visa issues!! lesson learnt, trips abroad are not to be planned in same fashion as local ones!

meanwhile following it up at #DebConf on IRC. There is definetly lot of fun going there!

going or not going?

This is one thing i hate the most, not knowing whether one would be travelling or not untill the last minute. While I got mexican visa, have been refused a ‘direct airside transit visa’ for UK! (i am taking british airways flights through london), & they wont even say on what basis it is refused!, now will have make rounds of BHC!

So by afternoon/evening should come to know if i am going or not, if not going then it has been a waste of month of time & lot of money!.

dream trips

As slowly I am realizing my travel genes, I am developing a taste for odd locations, so some places where I would like to go in my lifetime.

Central America/Gautemala ( mayan civilization )

Peru ( the andes & Inca sites )

Egypt (what else – the pyramids, mummies, nile!)

Iran (again, persiapolis, a trek on damavand, caspian sea).

Iraq (once cradle of civilization, hope it stabilizes & things remain to see!)

Parts of Africa (Saharan, wild life ones).

Mongolia (the wast deserts & crystal clear skys!)

Cambodia (buddhist,hindu architecture)

Brunei (what on earth is there to have once richest man).

Greenland (igloos?)

Antartica (penguins, south pole!)

& anytime favourite nepal & bhutan.

Lastly Mars, our red planetary neighbour (as of now its a one way ticket only!)

debconf @ mexico!

Ok, now its almost final, that I would be going to Mexico, for Debconf6 , this will be my first trip to the other side of the world, 12000km below my feet! My only mexican connection till now was once ordering choley-bhature in a mexican resturant in mumbai, they did take care that i will remember it well! :-P .

Confirmation of the trip came quite late, or else would have planned a trip to Gautemala nearby to visit ancient Mayan sites.

Debconf6 is the annual gettogether of DD/DU/DMs, happening in Oaxtepec (still to learn how to pronounce it!) from 14th to 22nd May, with Debcamp happening from 6th to 12th! 13th being Debian Day. So lot of geek fun to come by :)

another toy train trip

Recently had taken a ride on shimla-kalka toy train (though an evening one), but still trip was enchanting with moonlight & occasional drizzle and lightening halfway downhill. my first trip was on neral-matheran. now hoping to jump upon the kangra toy train (pathankot – jogindernagar) at the earliest opportunity. hoping this year to complete travelling by all hill trains in india ( kangra, ooty, darjeeling remaining ). This will be one small step in the lifetime plan of travelling over every km of Indian Railway track!
